About the Campus
The University of Pannonia Nagykanizsa Campus, the PEN is the south-west gate of one of the fastest growing higher education institution in the country; integral part of the University of Pannonia.
Our students can find an environment of true friendship, where professional teachers help them study with the latest international findings in their field of expertise. Pannon University (PE) is the perfect place for building up a network of colleagues and the university dormitory is the stage for busy university life. Those who leave with degrees and those who spend their intern years through home or foreign contacts can find job opportunities where they can compound the theoretical knowledge they have learned with us, the practical experience, their knowledge of foreign languages and their creative talents.
In addition to the education our staff gives special attention to the business sector, as well, due to this we worked with a number of business and other institution on different research fields.
“Water, thou hast no taste, no color, no odor; canst not be defined, art relished while ever mysterious. Not necessary to life, but rather life itself, thou fillest us with a gratification that exceeds the delight of the senses.”
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Soós Ernő Water Technology Research and Development Center was established in 2014 by University of Pannonia Faculty of Engineering, Nagykanizsa Municipality of County Rank and Hidrofilt Water Treatment Ltd.
The basic aim of the research center is to pursue its work on the basis of the multi-decade experience and results gained in Nagykanizsa in the field of water treatment and water purification.
The goal of the center is to perform international-level research activities in different areas of water purification and treatment. Beside fundamental research the research center plays an active role in the industrial development activities, putting a great emphasis on drinking water treatment, power plant and cooling tower water management, horticulture and irrigation water treatment, sea water desalination, pharmaceutical and infusion solutions water supply technologies and related control procedures, measurement technology area.
For the experiments laboratory and pilot scale equipments are available, such as MF, UF, NF, RO, EDI, different packed columns and ion-exchange resins.
The areas utilizing the development results include:
- Treatment methods for drinking water;
- Process water treatment;
- Complex thermal water treatment;
- Purified Water, Highly Purified Water and pre-treatment of WFI (Water for Injection) for pharmaceutical industry;
- Water treatment for horticulture and irrigation;
- Wastewater treatment in industries i.e. produced water treatment in oil and gas industry;

The Soós Ernő Water Technology Research and Development Center with help of supporters established the Water Analysis Laboratory in 2017.
Primarily technological, and additional analytical and biological investigations are carried out in the laboratory. There is a wide range of classical analytical methods (gravimetric analysis, titrimetric analysis, electric conductivity analysis), however, instrumental analytical techniques (spectroscopy, chromatography, chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry) are increasingly used to determine very small amounts of components.
The Water Analysis Laboratory aims investigations on drinking water, well water, surface water, ground water and bathing water in the field and in the laboratory as well.
The Water Analysis Laboratory is opened to all intereted students. Our research center provides laboratory lectures for groups, classes, or people interested in sciences.
